Basic information about water

As we know, water is the basic need of our life, so  we have to know about some basic key points about water: –

Physical Properties of Water

  • Water is Colourless.
  • Water is odourless.
  • The chemical formula of water is H2O ( two molecules of Hydrogen and one molecule of oxygen)
  • Water can change its physical properties, it can change solid to liquid, liquid to gas, and gas to liquid. It means water found in all states of matter.

Other information about water:

  1. International Water Day is celebrated every year on 22 March.
  2. The Year 2003 was celebrated as the International Fresh Water Year.

How much water is present on our Earth?

71% of our earth is covered with water, and the rest is covered with land( forest, mountain, etc.). Due to the majority of the earth being covered by water, it is also known as the Blue Planet. Some Key points of this 71% water are following: –

  1. From 71% of 95% are present in the ocean and sea, and 3% is fresh water.
  2. Out of this 3%, 30% is ground water and 69% in icebergs and glaciers, only 1% is easily available to use.

Fresh water: The part of 71% usable water is known as Fresh Water.

Different Form of Water

Water has different forms according to its conditions, like atmospheric and temperature. The forms of water are explained below:

  1. Solid Form: Ice is the solid form of water.
  2. Liquid Form: Drinking water is the Liquid form of water.
  3. Gas Form: When we heat the water and it gets converted into steam, this steam is a form of gas.

Water Cycle

The water cycle is the most important concept in Water: A Precious Resource—Class 7 Notes, Importance, Conservation & Solutions.

Water Cycle: The Water cycle is the process in which water change their form and get reverse back, to use of years. The water cycle has different stages, which are explained below:

  1. Evaporation: Evaporation is the process in which liquid states of water change into vapor/gas due to increased temperature.
  2. Condensation: Condensation is the process in which water vapors are condensed in air and make water droplets due to temperature decrease. These water droplets make clouds.
  3. Precipitation: Precipitation is the process in which water droplets are increased, then they come down to earth in the form of rain.
  4. Water Collection: When water drops came back to earth in the form of rain. It collects on the earth’s surface (ponds, lakes and sea) and comes from the inner part of the earth in the groundwater.

Groundwater

In Water: A Precious Resource – Class 7 Notes, Importance, Conservation & Solutions, Groundwater is the most important concept.  In Class 7 science groundwater role and importance in our daily life is very crucial. Important information about Groundwater is explained below:

Water came to the earth’s surface, slipped into cracks and holes present on the earth’s surface.

Water Table: The Water table is the upper limit of the layer of water present in the surface. Water table can vary at different places.

Ground Water: Groundwater is the water that is present beneath the water table of a place.

Infiltration: This is the process in which water reaches into the ground by passing through the soil pores.

Aquifer: water present in the underground rock layer is called Aquifer. In the underground layer of rock, the water is in its pores or cracks.

How can we get Groundwater?

This is the most important question that is raised in our mind, how can we get groundwater for our use?

Ground handpump, digging wells are some important processes to get ground water. As we know, groundwater is the main source of water in our daily life.

Use of Groundwater

  1. For Drinking Water: Ground water is the main source of drinking water. It is good for drinking.
  2. Irrigation: To achieve agricultural success, the main role in it is the groundwater. Groundwater is the main source of irrigation.
  3. Use in Industry: to fulfil the industry water requirement, the ground water plays a very important role.

There are many uses of groundwater. Some of them are explained above, some you can find on our platform The Education House.

Water Table Depilation

As we know the water level of groundwater is continuously depleting, it may be due to many reasons, some of which are as follows:

  1. Over Use of Water: The excessive extraction of fresh water for irrigation, industrial uses, and self uses is the main reason of water table depletion.
  2. Population Growth: As we know our population is increasing very fast, so due to an increase in population the demand of fresh water is increasing for drinking and other purposes.
  3. Climate Change: Due to certain reasons, our climate is changing day by day, so the water cycle is not done properly, so that’s why our fresh water level is depleting.
  4. Deforestation: Due to deforestation and making new buildings or other earth cover things, the pores in the soil are decreasing, which is why water is unable to get in it.

Distribution of Water

Distribution of water is dependent on many conditions on earth. Climate and geographic conditions play very important roles in it. For example, in India, Rajasthan have a very low water table/ Groundwater but Meghalaya has a high water table. It is done due to its climate conditions, rainfall

Water conservation:

Water conservation is the most important concept in Water: A Precious Resource – Class 7 Notes, Importance, Conservation & Solutions. It is very important to conserve water. Some of the tips/methods are explained below:

Rain water Harvesting: Rain water harvesting is the process in which the water of rain is stored or put into the groundwater for future use or increasing the water table. It can be done on the individual level or community level. It is very beneficial, whereas the fall pattern is very low or irregular.

Efficient Irrigation Technique: We can conserve water by using efficient irrigation techniques like Drip Irrigation, and sprinkler irrigation. By these techniques, the use of water in irrigation is very low.

Water Efficient Appliances: By using water-efficient appliances in the home or public use system, we can conserve water.

Public Awareness and Education: The most important role in water conservation is public awareness. By raising awareness of water conservation, we educated the people and explained to them the benefits of water conservation.

Fixing leaky Pipe: By fixing or replacing the damaged/leaky pipe, we can conserve water.

Conclusion:

In Water: A Precious Resource – Class 7 Notes, Importance, Conservation & Solutions we discuss the basics of water and uses of water. The Education House team is always dedicated to providing the best educational material to our learners.
