Introduction of Class 6 science chapter 2 pdf Component of Food:-
Class 6 chapter 2 science is all about components of our food. In our food, the most important is nutrition. In this chapter we learn component of food and type of component. Values of components and their tests in our food. What is the work of components in our body? What is the effect of component deficiency in our body? What are the sources of complete component values in our body?
Explanation of Class 6 science Chapter 2 pdf:-
In class 6 science chapter 1, we discuss what we eat and where it comes from. Then we find our food ingredients come from plants and animals. We learn about the food verities. As we eat different foods, have you ever thought why we need different foods because they are made from many components and each component contains a different nutrient value? Now in class 6 science chapter 6 pdf, we discuss major nutrients in our food. Some major nutrients are given below:
1.Carbohydrate 2.Fat 3.Proteins 4.Vitamins 5.Minerals 6. Dietary Fibre 7. water
Do all foods contain all nutrients? To find the answer to this question, we can easily test which nutrient is present in our food. The tests of carbohydrate, proteins, and fat are simple with the help of basic science experiments as compared to other nutrient tests. For testing these three nutrients, we need iodine, sulphate, caustic soda, and copper with a few test tubes and a dropper.
Starch Test :-
There are many kinds of carbohydrates. Starch and sugar are main type of carbohydrate. Now we test for starch.
For the starch test, take some food and iodine solution. Put a few drops of iodine solution on food. Now observe if there is any change in colour of food. It turned into Blur-Black. Blue-black is an indication of starch. You can test it on any food or raw material that you eat and want to check if it contains Strach.
Protein Test :-
Test the protein in your food. You take some food and mix it with a few drops of water. Now put into the test tube and drop two drops of copper sulphate solution and 10 drops of caustic soda. Shake well this solution and let the test tube stand for a few minutes. Now you observe the colour of solution is going to change. Is it violet colour? If yes, then it shows this food contains protein. By this process, you can test for protein in your food and raw materials
Fat Test :-
Test for fat is very simple. Take some food or raw material and wrap it in paper. Now crush the wrapped food, but take care the paper does not tear. Open the paper and spread the food. Now carefully observe if there are any oily patches on paper. If yes, it is an indication of the presence of fat. But sometimes food contains water, so you can wait for some time for a clear test of fat.
Activity For You :-
Make a list of daily-use foods and test all three on that food: –
1.Potato
2.Milk
3.Cooked Rice
4.Ground nuts
5.A slice of fruit
6.A slice of vegetable
Is all three nutrients available in each food?

What do various nutrients do for our body?
Nutrients are very important for our body health. All nutrients play different roles in our body. Details of the role are explained below: –
- Carbohydrate: It provides energy to our body. Example: wheat, potato, rice, sugarcane, mango, etc.
- Fat: it also provides energy to our body. It provides much more energy as compared to carbohydrates. Example: meat, eggs, milk, butter, oil, etc.
- Protein: Proteins are needed for the growth and repair of our body; they’re also called body-building nutrients. Example: Gram, pulses, eggs, milk, fish, etc.
- Vitamins: They help in protecting our body against diseases. It also helpful for teeth, bones and gum. Vitamins are different kinds known as different names: Vitamin A, Vitamin B complex, Vitamin C, Vitamin D, E, and K. All of these have different roles in our body.
- Vitamin A helps keep our skin and eyes healthy. Example: carrot, mango, milk, etc.
- Vitamin C: It helps to avoid many diseases. Example: orange, tomato, lemon, etc.
- Vitamin D helps our body to strong teeth and bones by using calcium from nutrients. example: egg, fish, milk, etc
- Minerals: Minerals are needed by our body in a small amount as compared to other nutrients. It helps for proper growth and maintains the health of our body.
5. Water: This is the most important nutrient for our body. It helps to absorve all other nutrients in our body. It also helps to extract the waste material from us in the form of sweat and urine. It can be taken directly, and it is found in our food also.
6.Dietary Fibers: also known as Roughage. It does not provide any nutrients to our body but is an essential component for our body. It helps our body to digest.
Balance Diet:-
The food that contains all nutrients in the right ratio, which is required by our body for healthy and proper growth. It must contain dietary fibers also. This is called a balanced diet.
All people need different types of balanced diets. It depends on age, physical work load, and other factors.
Additional Information about Nutrients:-
Eating the right source of food is not enough. We have to check if it contains all nutrients. There are a lot of foods that lost their nutrient value in different conditions. A few examples are given below:
- Vegetables and fruits may lose their nutrient value after washing because the skins of many vegetables and fruits contain vitamins.
- Repeat washing of pulses and rice may lose their nutrient value.
- When we cook food, it may lose its nutrient value. There are many food materials that lose their nutrient value if they use excess water during cooking and are then thrown away.
- Vitamins lose their nutrient value by heating.
Disease by deficiency of nutrients :-
If a person does not get proper nutrient value in their food, it may be ill because deficiency of nutrients may cause disease. Diseases that occur due to a lack of nutrients are called deficiency diseases. Different nutrient deficiencies show different symptoms and cause disease. Some examples are given below:
- Protein: swelling of the face, white hair, skin disease, stuned growth, and diarrhea.
- Carbohydrate: weakness, body growth stop, body type very lean.
- Vitamin A: eye sight related problem
- Vitamin B1: weak muscles, Beriberi
- Vitamin C: Bleeding gums, Scurvy
- Vitamin D: bones become soft and bent (rickets).
- Calcium: weak bones, tooth decay
- Iodine-Glands in the nack appear swollen (Goiter), mental disability in children
- Iron weakness (anemi
